Context

Virtual Reality (VR) is a computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional environment that can be interacted with in a seemingly real physical way by a person. It is achieved using specialized hardware, such as head-mounted displays and motion-tracking devices. VR is used for various purposes, such as gaming, training, education, and more, to provide an immersive experience that allows users to feel as if they are physically present in a virtual environment. In October 2022, the Meta Quest Pro headset was unveiled by Reality Labs, a division of Meta (formerly Facebook). Simultaneouly, Meta introduced the Presence Platform suite of developer tools for developing virtual reality applications using the Meta Quest Pro headset.

Objective

The main objective of this project is to explore the possibilities of the Presence Platform suite of developer tools for the Meta Quest Pro virtual reality headset recently acquired by our research group. This exploration will be achieved by developing a simple application taking advantage of Meta’s virtual reality hardware and software components. The exact functionality of the sample application is yet to be defined, in collaboration with the students working on this project.
